The second ingredient: space
Now, you'll want to find or create a corner in your home that has a comfortable and lovely feeling, where you and your partner can sit side by side.
Keep in mind:
- It doesn't need to be a dedicated space! It can be a "pop-up" station, e.g. you assemble it just before your practice. (Of course, if you have the room you are welcome to create a dedicated space, too.)
- If it's comfortable for your bodies, I recommend setting up a way to sit on the ground. This new and different way of sitting makes room for connecting in ways that wouldn't be possible at the table or bed.
- If you can, find a spot where you like the light at the time of the day when you'll be joining together
- Look for a place that can be private, where you can close the door and have a boundary with the outside world
- You can add props to your pop-up space to build a special mood — like sage, flowers, or an object you consider sacred or beautiful.
My partner and I place yoga mats side by side in a sunny corner of our home every Sunday at 11am which is when we do our meeting.
